Myths and inaccurate beliefs lead to discrimination. Is your knowledge accurate? For example, do you know people who experience mental illness are more likely to be victims of violent crimes, not perpetrators?
Be fair and treat people equally. When you include people who experience mental illness you are aiding their recovery. People who experience mental illness want to be accepted and included without giving up who they are.
We're proud as New Zealanders to have embraced difference in so many ways. However, people are discriminated against every day because of prejudice and stereotypes about mental illness. So it's up to all of us to make a change for the better.
